About Close Enough
The game
One new case every day at midnight Eastern Time: five questions about the real world, 25 seconds each. Answer with a range. If the true number lands inside it, you score, and the tighter the range, the more you score. Miss and you get 0. Rounds 3 and 4 count double and the last round counts four times, so a perfect day is 1,000.
Every answer you catch fires your rocket farther out: low orbit, the Moon, Mars, a nebula, a black hole, and somewhere past all of it, a surprise. Miss and the engine sputters.
"People said" shows what the public guessed when a published survey asked the same question (for example Gapminder and Ipsos surveys).
Where the numbers come from
Every answer comes from a published source, shown under each question when it's revealed. Every case is checked by a person before it goes live. Main sources:
- Our World in Data (CC BY 4.0), including data from Gapminder and the UN
- United Nations: World Population Prospects, World Urbanization Prospects, UNESCO, FAO, UNEP
- World Bank: World Development Indicators, Global Findex, Poverty and Inequality Platform
- WHO / UNICEF, ITU, GSMA Intelligence, IEA / Tracking SDG7, Ember, USGS, NIH, peer-reviewed studies
